Utah's Own Acreage Enhancement Pilot Program a success

Manzana Springs Vegetable Farm

We were able to significantly increase our sales of eight different crops through the Moonflower Market.  This helped the Moonflower to offer its customers more local produce from our farm in 2007.

At the Moonflower Market stickers and signs were used to identify our produce as “Utah’s Own” and additional signage helped to explain and promote the Utah’s Own Program.

We were able to plant into twenty five new beds expanding our acreage by thirty three percent.

The Utah’s Own Grant increased the success of our 2007 season and helped improve our farm’s efficiency through purchase and use of new planting and harvesting tools.  As a result we continue to aspire to have a significant part of our income provided through farming and for Chris to become a full time farmer.

Green River Farms

Vegetables were distributed to approximately 10 families throughout the season. This was the official start of a CSA group in the Green River area. We weren’t as organized as we wanted to be but we learned a lot and have plans to improve things for next year. Also, everyone that participated was very happy with the fresh produce. They all seemed to enjoy “trying new things.” Pesto was a big hit since we had excess basil.

Holiday Expeditions utilized locally grown, fresh produce, on their whitewater rafting and mountain biking trips. They have also added a link to “Utah’s Own” website from theirs.

The Best Western Motel also added our fresh vegetables to their hot breakfast. Which by the way is the best that I have ever experienced or seen.
